About This Ritual
When a family decides to bring the mortal remains of their loved one to Prayagraj for immersion, that decision is made out of love, faith, and a desire to give the departed soul the best possible farewell. The Gold Seva Package for Asthi Visarjan at Triveni Sangam is built around that intention — giving your family a complete, well-supported, and dignified experience at a price that most families can afford without financial strain.
At Rs. 19,999, this is our most popular package, and it is not difficult to see why. You receive 3-star hotel accommodation, a private air-conditioned cab, a private boat to the Triveni Sangam, an experienced Brahmin pandit, and a complete set of all ritual materials — all handled end-to-end by our team. The ceremony is performed with the same care, the same mantras, and the same sanctity that we bring to every Asthi Visarjan we conduct.
The Sanctity of Triveni Sangam — Why Families Come to Prayagraj
Among the tirthas described in the Vedic texts, Prayagraj stands apart. It is the Tirtharaj — the king of all pilgrimage sites — precisely because it is the meeting point of the three holiest rivers in the Hindu tradition: the Ganga, the Yamuna, and the Saraswati, which flows invisibly beneath the earth and is perceptible only to those who come with genuine faith.
The Garuda Purana, the scripture that governs the rites of death, afterlife, and liberation, repeatedly emphasizes that the soul's journey is aided enormously by proper last rites performed at a sacred tirtha. Immersion of the mortal remains — the ashes and bones — at a confluence of rivers is described as one of the most liberating acts a living family member can perform for a departed soul. The triple confluence at Prayagraj is, by scriptural consensus, the most powerful location for this purpose in all of India.
This is not merely a tradition. Families who have carried out this ritual describe the moment of immersion as a turning point in their grief — a sense of genuine release, both for themselves and for the soul they are sending forward. The ritual gives sorrow a proper form, and a proper conclusion.
You can read a full explanation of the scriptural basis and the ritual procedure in our detailed guide: Asthi Visarjan Poojan — All You Need to Know.
What the Gold Package Includes
The Gold Seva Package is designed to cover every essential element of a proper Asthi Visarjan without unnecessary overhead. You are not paying for luxury extras — you are paying for a complete, reliable, well-organized ceremony with comfortable accommodation and transport.
- One night in a 3-star hotel — clean, comfortable, and well-located accommodation in Prayagraj, with breakfast included for all family members
- Private air-conditioned cab — a dedicated vehicle for your family's exclusive use throughout the stay, not a shared taxi
- Airport and railway station transfers — pickup on arrival and drop on departure, so you never have to manage transport independently
- Private boat to Triveni Sangam — your own boat for the ceremony, giving your family the privacy this moment deserves
- Experienced Brahmin pandit — a trained pandit who knows the Garuda Purana rites thoroughly and will guide every step of the ceremony
- Complete puja samagri — all ritual materials are included: gangajal, sesame seeds (til), flowers, incense, earthen lamps, and all items required for the Shraddha puja and Tarpan
- Pre-ceremony guidance — the pandit will brief the family before the ritual begins, so everyone understands what is happening and why
The Two-Day Programme
Day 1: Arrival and Preparation
From the moment you arrive in Prayagraj, our team takes over. Your driver will be waiting at the station or airport, and you will be taken directly to the hotel without delay or confusion.
Once your family has checked in and rested, the pandit will visit. This meeting is important and unhurried — it is where the sankalp details are recorded. The pandit will ask for the name of the deceased, their gotra, and your relationship to them. He will explain the sequence of rituals planned for the following morning and answer any questions your family has. If you wish to add any additional rites — such as Pind Daan or a special Shraddha for a specific ancestor — this is the time to discuss it.
The evening of the first day is free. Some families use this time for a quiet visit to the Sangam ghats, where you can simply sit by the river and absorb the atmosphere of Prayagraj. Others prefer to rest. Either is entirely appropriate.
Day 2: The Ceremony and Return
On the morning of the ceremony, your vehicle will take you to the ghat. Your private boat will be waiting. The pandit boards with the family, and the boat moves toward the confluence.
The ritual begins with Sankalp — the formal declaration of intent, made in the name of the deceased and the family performing the rites. This is followed by Tarpan, the offering of water with sesame seeds and flowers to all ancestors going back three generations. The pandit chants the Vedic mantras for each offering, and willing family members participate by cupping water in their hands and releasing it into the river.
Then comes Pind Daan — the ritual shaping and offering of small rice balls, which are believed to provide nourishment for the soul on its onward journey. After this, the Asthi Visarjan takes place: the vessel containing the ashes is opened, and the remains are gently released into the waters of the Sangam.
The pandit chants the final Garuda Purana mantras, asking for the soul's liberation. Flowers are floated on the water. An earthen lamp is lit and floated. The ceremony concludes. The boat returns to the ghat.
After the ceremony, the family returns to the hotel for breakfast and checkout. Your vehicle will take you to the station or airport for your onward journey home.
The Ritual — Same Ceremony, Same Sacred Merit
Families sometimes wonder whether a more expensive package means a "better" ceremony or greater spiritual benefit for the deceased. The answer is clearly no. The ritual performed in the Gold package is identical to the one performed in our Platinum package. The same mantras are chanted. The same Garuda Purana procedure is followed. The same Triveni Sangam receives the ashes.
The difference between the Gold and Platinum packages is in the hotel — 3-star versus 4-star — and in the transport vehicle. These affect your comfort during the trip. They have no bearing whatsoever on the spiritual efficacy of the ceremony or the merit accrued for the soul of the departed.
This is a point worth making plainly, because it matters. The Vedic texts are consistent on this: the merit of an act of devotion is determined by the sincerity of the performer, not the cost of the materials. A family performing Asthi Visarjan in the Gold package, with full faith and proper mantras, is offering the same sacred gift to their loved one as any family in any other package.
Preparing for the Journey
A small amount of preparation before you travel makes the experience smoother for everyone, and ensures the ceremony can begin without delays.
- Carry the ashes (asthi and phool) in a clean copper or clay pot, or wrapped in a clean white cloth. Avoid plastic containers where possible, as they are considered inauspicious for ritual use.
- Know the gotra of the deceased and the person performing the main rites. If you are unsure of the gotra, contact us before traveling — it is a detail we can help you determine.
- Wear white or off-white clothing on the day of the ceremony. Avoid bright or festive colours during the trip.
- Eat a light, vegetarian meal on the morning of the ceremony. Avoid meat, alcohol, and heavy food.
- No puja materials need to be purchased or brought — all samagri is included in this package.
- If elderly family members will be joining, mention this when booking so we can ensure appropriate transport and boat boarding arrangements.
How the Gold Package Compares to Other Options
We offer two other tiers of this service. The Platinum Seva Package at Rs. 27,999 upgrades to a 4-star hotel and provides a larger, premium vehicle — an excellent choice for families traveling from abroad or for those who want the highest level of comfort and attention to detail during a difficult time.
The Silver Seva Package at Rs. 17,999 covers all the essential elements of the ceremony with clean, verified homestay accommodation — ideal for families who need to keep costs to a minimum but still want a properly conducted, fully supported Asthi Visarjan.
In all three packages, the ritual, the pandit, the private boat, and the puja samagri are the same. Most families booking for the first time find that the Gold package gives them everything they need.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the Gold and Platinum packages?
The Gold package includes 3-star hotel accommodation and a private AC cab. The Platinum package includes 4-star hotel accommodation and a premium vehicle. The ceremony itself — the pandit, the mantras, the boat, the samagri, and the location at Triveni Sangam — is identical in both. If comfort during the stay is a priority (especially for elderly family members or those traveling a long distance), the Platinum upgrade may be worth considering.
Can I upgrade from Gold to Platinum after I have booked?
Yes, upgrades are possible subject to availability. Contact us as early as possible if you wish to change your accommodation or vehicle tier. The ceremony date will not be affected.
What is the 3-star hotel like?
We work with a small selection of reliable, centrally located hotels in Prayagraj that we have verified for cleanliness, service quality, and proximity to the ghats. The specific hotel will be confirmed at the time of booking. All rooms have air conditioning, attached bathrooms, and breakfast is included.
Can the entire family — including children — attend the boat ceremony?
Yes. There is no restriction on who may attend. Witnessing the final rites is considered auspicious, not inauspicious, and children are welcome. Our boatmen are experienced and the journey to the confluence point is gentle. If any family member has a physical difficulty that makes boat travel challenging, please let us know and we will make arrangements.
Is it possible to perform the rites on an auspicious tithi?
Yes, and we recommend planning around auspicious tithis if your schedule allows. Amavasya (new moon day), Makar Sankranti, and the Pitrupaksha fortnight (particularly Mahalaya Amavasya) are all considered highly auspicious for Asthi Visarjan and Shraddha rites. Dates during Pitrupaksha are in high demand — please book well in advance.
What if the ashes are from a cremation that happened many months ago?
There is no scriptural prohibition on delayed Asthi Visarjan. Families living overseas or in distant cities routinely perform the immersion months or years after the cremation. The spiritual merit of the ceremony is not diminished by the passage of time. What matters is that the rite is performed with proper mantras and genuine devotion.
