Gati, Deep Daan & Pitra Maha-yagya is been done at Garh Mukteshwar. Here are the poojan inclusions.
Inclusions:-
Note:- The poojan is done at Braj ghat in Garh Mukteshwar, Hapur, Uttar Pradesh.
When a family wishes to perform something beyond the standard Shradh ceremony — when the need is to genuinely address the liberation of ancestral souls, resolve Pitra Dosha, and create lasting merit for the departed — a combination of Gati, Deep Daan, and Pitra Maha-yagya represents one of the most powerful ancestral ceremonies available in the Vedic tradition. Performed at the sacred teerth of Garh Mukteshwar on the banks of the Ganga in Uttar Pradesh, this three-component ceremony addresses every dimension of ancestral wellbeing: the granting of direction and peace to wandering souls (Gati), the offering of divine light for their journey (Deep Daan), and the invocation of cosmic fire for their liberation (Pitra Maha-yagya).
Garh Mukteshwar has been a site of ancestral liberation ceremonies for generations. The name itself — “the Lord who grants liberation” — speaks to the presiding energy of this sacred place. Lord Shiva’s presence here is understood to be particularly active in granting moksha to souls offered here by their descendants. When the fire of the yagya is lit on these banks, with the Ganga flowing beside the havan kund, the prayers travel with a force that ordinary ceremonies performed at less sacred locations cannot match.
The Sanskrit word “Gati” literally means movement, direction, or course. In the context of ancestral rites, Gati refers to the specific prayers and rituals performed to help a soul find its proper direction in the realms beyond death. According to Hindu understanding, not all souls pass smoothly through the various stages of the after-death journey. Souls that depart suddenly, in tragedy, or without having settled their karmic accounts may become confused or stuck — unable to progress toward their next appropriate state.
The Gati ceremony is performed specifically to address this. Through the recitation of Vedic mantras, the performance of specific offerings, and the direct invocation of Yama and the Pitra Devatas, the pandit creates a channel through which divine grace can reach the stuck or suffering soul. The soul is, in a sense, given direction — pointed toward the path of Sadgati (the good path forward). For families where a member died suddenly, in an accident, in youth, or in circumstances that suggest an unsettled departure, Gati is a profoundly important ceremony.
Deep Daan, the donation of sacred lamps, is an ancient act of devotion rooted in the metaphor of light. The realms through which the soul travels after death are described in the Garuda Purana as often dark and difficult to navigate. The offering of lamps by descendants is understood to literally illuminate the path ahead for the departed soul — the merit of the Deep Daan creates divine light in the realms the soul is traversing.
At Garh Mukteshwar, Deep Daan on the Ganga is performed by floating diyas on the river’s surface. Each lamp that drifts on the Ganga with the ancestor’s name invoked is believed to carry divine light to that soul. The Ganga’s own sacred energy carries the offering further than it could travel through any other medium. When dozens of lamps are offered in a single ceremony in the name of an ancestor, the cumulative light created for that soul’s journey is immense.
Deep Daan is also performed as an offering to the ancestors at the conclusion of each day during Pitrupaksha in many traditional families. Here, it is elevated into a formal ceremony with proper mantra recitation, making it far more potent than the informal evening lamp offering.
The Maha-yagya is the centrepiece of this combined ceremony. A yagya (fire sacrifice) performed specifically for the benefit of Pitra Devatas — the ancestral deities — is among the most powerful acts a descendant can perform. Fire in the Hindu tradition is the universal medium of offering. When oblations are made into the sacred fire with precise mantras, the fire transmutes the physical offering into a form that the subtle world can receive and benefit from.
The Pitra Maha-yagya goes beyond a standard havan. It is conducted over an extended period with multiple rounds of specific ancestral mantras, offerings of sesame, barley, ghee, and specially prepared materials, and invoking the Pitra Devatas directly. The scale and duration of this yagya means that the fire ritual alone generates significant merit, which the performing descendant directs entirely toward their ancestors.
At Garh Mukteshwar, the yagya is performed near the Ganga. The combined presence of sacred fire and sacred water — Agni and Ganga together — creates a ceremony of exceptional power. The smoke from the fire rising toward the sky while the Ganga flows beside it represents the meeting of all the cosmic elements invoked in the service of the departed.
These three ceremonies are not simply placed together for convenience. They address the ancestral situation from three distinct angles that together create a complete picture of care:
When these three are performed together at a sacred Ganga teerth like Garh Mukteshwar, they create what the tradition calls a complete Pitra Karma — the full range of duties a descendant can perform for their ancestors beyond the standard Shradh. Families who have been troubled by Pitra Dosha manifestations — persistent difficulties in the family, recurring patterns of illness, financial struggles attributed to ancestral displeasure — often find that a ceremony of this completeness brings visible relief after its performance.
While this ceremony can be performed at any time of year, there are particular times when its power is considered heightened:
For families in Delhi and the NCR region, Garh Mukteshwar offers the rare combination of genuine sacred significance and practical accessibility. Located approximately 85 to 95 kilometres from Delhi on NH-9, the town is reachable in 2 to 3 hours and the entire ceremony can be completed within a single day. The Brij Ghat at Garh Mukteshwar is one of the most sacred ghats in the entire Gangetic belt, and the Ganga’s energy at this location is considered particularly potent for ancestral rites.

A standard Shradh ceremony primarily addresses the nourishment of the ancestor’s subtle body and the fulfilment of the basic annual duty to the departed. This package goes further — it specifically addresses the liberation of souls that may be stuck or directionless (Gati), illuminates their path with sacred lamps (Deep Daan), and performs a full fire ritual to create maximum liberating merit (Pitra Maha-yagya). This is a more intensive, comprehensive ceremony suited for situations where standard Shradh may be insufficient.
Yes. Gati is a beneficial ceremony for all ancestors, not just those known to be in a difficult situation. Even souls who are progressing normally on their journey benefit from the additional prayers and offerings of a Gati ceremony. Think of it as ensuring that every possible form of support has been extended to your ancestors, regardless of their current state. No harm can come from performing Gati for a soul that does not specifically require it.
The full Gati, Deep Daan, and Pitra Maha-yagya ceremony typically takes between 4 and 6 hours, including preparation, the ceremonies themselves, and the formal conclusion. We recommend planning for a full day at Garh Mukteshwar, departing from Delhi in the early morning to arrive in time for preparation and completing the ceremonies before sunset.
Yes. Many families choose to combine this package with Shradh and Brahmin Bhoj, creating a truly complete ancestral ceremony. This would be arranged as a separate add-on and would extend the duration of the day accordingly. Please inform us at the time of booking if you wish to include Shradh so that we can prepare the complete schedule and materials.
The Pitra Maha-yagya and Gati ceremonies together are among the most effective remedies for Pitra Dosha recommended in the Vedic tradition. However, Pitra Dosha can have varying intensities and may also require additional remedies such as Narayan Bali or Tripindi Shradh depending on its cause. We recommend a consultation with our pandit before booking — share the relevant details of the dosha and our team will advise whether this package alone is sufficient or whether additional ceremonies are needed.
