What should I wear when visiting Haridwar temples and ghats?

Modest, conservative clothing is expected at all temples and ghats in Haridwar. Traditional Indian attire — sari or salwar kameez for women, kurta-dhoti or kurta-pyjama for men — is most appropriate. Remove footwear before entering temple precincts. For ritual bathing at Har ki Pauri, loose clothing that can be quickly changed is practical.
