Choose with understanding

First understand which Shradh your family is arranging

If an elder or family priest has given specific guidance, let that guide your choice. A general concern should not be used to assume that a separate remedial rite is required.

Annual or Tithi Shradh

  • Observed on the lunar tithi remembered by the family
  • The exact vidhi follows family custom and the package selected
  • Suitable when the annual Shradh has been clearly planned
  • The pandit can guide you when the English date is known but the tithi is not

Pitru Paksha Shradh

  • Offered during the ancestral fortnight from 26 September to 10 October 2026
  • Choose the corresponding tithi when it is known
  • Sarva Pitru Amavasya may be considered when the exact tithi is unknown
  • Reserve the chosen tirtha early so the family is not hurried later

Has your family been specifically advised to perform Tripindi Shradh? It is a separate rite and is not included in the standard packages below. View the dedicated Tripindi Shradh package.

After you choose the package

The family details are confirmed before the ceremony begins

  • The intended Shradh is understoodThe annual tithi, Pitru Paksha day and any family custom you know are discussed first.

  • The Sankalp details are checkedThe Karta’s name, gotra if known, ancestor names and relationships are kept ready.

  • The place and time are confirmedTravelling families receive the local details; online families receive the agreed joining time.

  • The listed ceremony is performedThe pandit follows the package scope at the sacred location without adding unchosen rites.

A traditional reminder: the Skanda Purana’s Nagara Khanda explains that sincere faith gives Shraddha its name. The family may therefore approach the rite quietly and with understanding, without fear or hurried promises.

Simple preparation

Keep these details ready for your Shradh ceremony

Do not worry if every detail is not known. Share what the family remembers, and let the pandit guide the remaining points calmly.

What Shradh means

The word points toward remembrance offered with shraddha—sincere faith and reverence. A Shradh ceremony is therefore not chosen from fear. It is arranged as a family duty, with the names of the ancestors and the intention of the Karta held clearly in the Sankalp.

Families use the spellings Shradh, Shraddh and Shraadh for the same broad tradition. The exact vidhi can differ by region, family custom and occasion, so a package should describe what will actually be performed rather than relying only on a familiar name.

How to choose Gaya, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Haridwar or Garh Ganga

The simplest guidance is to honour the tirtha already remembered in your family. Gaya is chosen by many families for the Vishnupad and Phalgu-area tradition; Prayagraj for Triveni Sangam; Varanasi for Kashi beside the Ganga; Haridwar for its Ganga ghats; and Garh Ganga for Brij Ghat at Garh Mukteshwar.

If travel is not possible, choose only among the online packages that clearly name the place, the included rite and live participation. The physical ceremony remains in India; live video conferencing is a practical way for the family to join, not a claim that every family tradition follows one identical form.

Read the complete informational guide to Shradh if your family wishes to study the rite in greater depth before booking.

Guidance before booking

Questions families often ask about Shradh Puja

Read the answer that applies to your family, then open the selected package to confirm its exact scope.

What is Shradh Puja?

Shradh is an ancestral rite offered with remembrance and reverence. The exact vidhi follows the family tradition, the occasion and the selected package. Shradh is also commonly written as Shraddh or Shraadh.

Is Shradh the same as Tarpan or Pind Daan?

They are related, but they should not be treated as identical. Tarpan is the prescribed water offering, while Pind Daan is the offering of pindas. A Shradh package may include one or both when they are clearly named. Please read the inclusions of the chosen package before booking.

Which sacred place should our family choose for Shradh?

Begin with the place remembered in your family tradition or advised by your family priest. If no place has been prescribed, compare Gaya, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Haridwar and Garh Ganga calmly, then choose the tirtha with which your family has a genuine connection.

Can we book Online Shradh Puja from outside India?

Yes. The selected ceremony is performed physically by a pandit at the sacred place named in the package. Your family details are included in the Sankalp, and relatives may join from abroad via live video conferencing, subject to the confirmed schedule.

What if we do not know the gotra or exact death tithi?

Share only what your family knows. The pandit will explain how an unknown gotra is handled and guide you on a suitable day. When the exact tithi is not known, Sarva Pitru Amavasya may be considered with proper guidance.

Are Tripindi Shradh and Narayan Bali included?

No. These are separate rites and should not be assumed from a general Shradh booking. Choose them only when the need has been understood through proper family or pandit guidance, and book the dedicated package.
