Complete guide
An editorial reference covering the ritual, the place, eligibility, timing, and what to keep ready — written for families weighing the decision.
When a family needs to perform ancestral rites, immerse ashes, or book a pandit for a puja at a sacred tirtha, the last thing they should face is uncertainty — about who will conduct the ceremony, what it costs, or whether the rites are being performed correctly. Prayag Pandits was built to answer all of that. We offer online puja booking for major ritual services across Prayagraj, Varanasi, Gaya, Haridwar, Ujjain, Mathura, and Badrinath — with experienced Teerth Purohits, transparent pricing, and full documentation. Whether you are traveling to the tirtha yourself or need the ceremony conducted on your behalf from abroad, book pandit online with us and the rest is taken care of.
We cover the full range of ancestral and ritual services that pilgrims seek at India's most sacred rivers and temples. Every booking includes a qualified Teerth Purohit, all required puja samagri (materials), and video or photo documentation of the ceremony.
The sacred immersion of mortal remains (ashes and bones) in holy waters. Performed at the most auspicious ghats across Prayagraj, Varanasi, Haridwar, and Garh Mukteshwar. The Garuda Purana considers this rite essential for the soul's onward journey.
Ritual rice-ball offerings made to appease the souls of departed ancestors and free them from any lingering bondage. The Vayu Purana names Gaya as the supreme place for Pind Daan, while the Agni Purana declares that rites at Prayaga yield undecaying merits.
Water libations offered with sesame seeds and kusha grass to one's ancestors during Pitrupaksha and on prescribed dates through the year. Tarpan is considered one of the most direct ways to fulfill one's Pitru Rin (ancestral debt).
The full Shradh ceremony performed with Brahmin purohits, including Tarpan, Pind Daan, and Brahmin Bhoj (feast). This is the complete annual or Pitrupaksha observance for departed ancestors.
A specialized Shradh ceremony for ancestors who died under inauspicious circumstances — sudden death, accidents, or those whose annual rites were missed for three consecutive years. Performed by a minimum of three purohits simultaneously.
Performed when a soul has departed through violent, accidental, or premature death (Akal Mrityu) and remains in an unrestful state. Narayan Bali is the prescribed remedy in such cases — a two-day ceremony that requires a senior Teerth Purohit.
A women's tonsure ceremony performed at Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj as an act of supreme devotion, often undertaken after the passing of a husband or as a vow of renunciation. Conducted with full Vedic rites at the Sangam ghat.
Performed for those with Kaal Sarp Dosh in their birth chart — a planetary configuration that creates repeated obstacles in life, relationships, and career. Rudrabhishek, the sacred abhishek of Lord Shiva with Panchamrit, is performed in the same sitting at Haridwar.
Our most comprehensive ancestral rite package — Pind Daan conducted simultaneously at Prayagraj, Varanasi, and Gaya in a single booking. The most thorough offering for families abroad who want all three Mahatirthas covered in one ceremony.

Each tirtha carries its own scriptural significance and is recommended for specific types of rites. Here is what the tradition says about each city — and which services we provide there.
The Skanda Purana calls Prayagraj "Tirtharaja" — the King of all Tirthas. Where the Ganga, Yamuna, and the subterranean Saraswati converge at Triveni Sangam, any rite performed here carries what the Agni Purana describes as "undecaying merit." It is considered equally auspicious for ancestral rites, Asthi Visarjan, and major sankalp ceremonies.

Varanasi is where Lord Shiva himself is said to whisper the Taraka Mantra into the ears of the dying, granting moksha. The Kashi Khanda of the Skanda Purana states that dying in Kashi is itself a liberation. Asthi Visarjan at Manikarnika Ghat and Pind Daan at Pishach Mochan or Dashashwamedh are considered among the most powerful ancestral rites one can perform. Read our Varanasi guide for more context.

The Vayu Purana explicitly identifies Gaya as the most sacred place in the world for Pind Daan. The Vishnupada Temple, built over Lord Vishnu's footprint, and Falgu River's banks are where Rama himself is said to have performed Pind Daan for King Dasharatha. Gaya is considered non-negotiable for those seeking complete ancestral liberation. Our Gaya Teerth Purohits maintain 300-year-old family records of pilgrims who have visited. Read our guide to Gaya Dham.

The Garuda Purana states that a holy dip at Haridwar means one is never born again in a lower state. Har Ki Pauri — where the Ganga is believed to touch the earth — is the primary ghat for Asthi Visarjan, Pind Daan, and Kaal Sarp Puja. Rudrabhishek at the Daksha Mahadev Temple is also performed here. Read our Haridwar guide.

Ujjain is one of the seven sacred Moksha-puris of Hinduism and home to the Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga — the only Jyotirlinga that is Swayambhu (self-manifested) and faces south. Mangalnath Temple in Ujjain is the birthplace of Mangal (Mars) according to the Matsya Purana, making it the only correct place to perform Mangal Dosh Puja. Read our Ujjain guide.
Available services: Asthi Visarjan (₹7,100) • Pind Daan (₹7,100) • Mangal Dosha Puja (₹10,999)
Mathura, on the banks of the Yamuna, is one of the seven moksha-granting cities. Pind Daan performed here is considered especially significant for those with familial connections to the Braj region and Vaishnava traditions.
Available services: Pind Daan in Mathura (₹7,100)
Brahmakapal at Badrinath is named for Lord Brahma's act of penance here after inadvertently severing Shiva's fifth head. It is considered the highest-altitude ancestral rite site in India, and Pind Daan performed here is believed to grant liberation to ancestors across 88 generations. Read the story of Brahmakapal.

A significant portion of the families we serve live outside India — in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, the UAE, Australia, Singapore, and Malaysia. Distance from the tirtha does not mean the rites cannot be performed. Our remote ceremony process was designed specifically for NRI families who want the rites done correctly but cannot travel on short notice.
You join the ceremony via live video on WhatsApp or Zoom. The Teerth Purohit includes you in the Sankalp — your name, your gotra, and the name of your ancestor are recited at the start of the ceremony as if you were standing at the ghat yourself. You watch, you can speak to the purohit, and you can offer virtual participation (touching water, lighting a diya through symbolic gesture) as directed.
We work with families in EST, PST, BST, GST, AEST, and SGT. For same-day bookings or urgent ceremonies (sudden death situations requiring Asthi Visarjan within 13 days), we schedule around your availability. Ceremonies that cannot be delayed due to tithi constraints are performed at the correct time, and you receive a full recording.
If you hold the physical ashes or asthi (bone fragments) and cannot travel, we accept Asthi Visarjan by courier. You ship the ashes to our registered address; we collect them, conduct the full ceremony at the ghat with Vedic mantras, and send you video documentation. This service has been used by families in the US, UK, UAE, Australia, and across Southeast Asia.
International bookings can be paid securely through PayPal checkout. PayPal shows the payment options and final amount available for your country before you confirm. If you need assistance paying from abroad, contact us on WhatsApp.

Voices from families
We performed Asthi Visarjan at Prayagraj through Prayag Pandits. The ceremony was very peaceful and the pandit was extremely respectful during the entire process. The boat ride to the sangam was well arranged.
We had been wanting to perform Pind Daan for years but couldn't travel to India. This online service was a blessing. The entire ritual was done as per shastras. Thank you Prayag Pandits team for your dedication. 🙏
First time booking online for a religious ceremony. Was skeptical but the service exceeded expectations.
We booked this for our grandfather's annual shradh. The ceremony was performed with great reverence. Pandit ji even shared stories from the Garuda Purana which were very enlightening for the younger generation. Dhanyavaad.
We are NRI family based in USA. We booked online poojan and it was conducted very sincerely. The video quality was good and we could see everything clearly. The team sent us photos and videos after the ceremony too.
Booked this for my late father. Everything was arranged perfectly. The team was professional and respectful throughout.
