Which three rivers meet at the Triveni Sangam?

Answered by Prakhar Porwal ·

Two of the three rivers are physically visible and one is believed to be metaphysically present: (1) The Ganga — descending from Gangotri in the Himalayas, flowing through Haridwar and reaching Prayagraj from the north, (2) The Yamuna — originating at Yamunotri, flowing through Delhi and Mathura to reach Prayagraj from the west, and (3) The Saraswati — the mystical underground river celebrated in the Rig Veda as “the best of mothers, the best of rivers, the best of goddesses.” The Saraswati was believed to flow visibly in Vedic times but has since dried up or gone underground due to geological changes. Modern satellite imaging has discovered paleochannels that confirm the Saraswati’s ancient course, strengthening the scriptural tradition.
